Song of the Week: “Dial Tone” by Jacob Tremont

Artist: Jacob Tremont

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey

This week’s Song of the Week is “Dial Tone” by Jacob Tremont

As highlighted in a recent feature from Rebel Noise, “Dial Tone” explores themes of distance and disconnect, that frustrating space between reaching out and actually being heard. The song captures the emotional static of modern communication: trying to connect, waiting for a response, and sitting in the silence when it doesn’t come.

Based in Hoboken, New Jersey, Jacob Tremont creates indie rock and alternative folk shaped by influences like Neil Young, R.E.M., Third Eye Blind, and Big Thief. His sound feels like ’90s grunge filtered through Americana - melodic but raw, reflective but direct.

Growing up in a small New Jersey town, Tremont developed an early fascination with imagery drawn from nature and rural life - themes that still echo in his songwriting. After college, he spent several years abroad, including time in China, before returning during the pandemic. In 2021, he released his debut home-recorded album junebug, inspired by a line from a favorite Lucinda Williams song.

After relocating back to Hudson County, Tremont spent three years building local community and sharpening his production skills, leading to the release of slow motion night (2025) on Mint400 Records. Outside of music, he works as a high school social studies teacher in the New York City public school system - balancing classroom life with creative output.

You can hear “DIAL TONE” spinning all week in heavy rotation on Radio Garden State.
