Song of the Week: “Mariner Martyr” by Söūp

Artist: Söūp

Location: Jersey Shore AREA, New Jersey

This week’s Song of the Week is “Mariner Martyr” by Söūp.

“Mariner Martyr” leans all the way into Söūp’s nautical DNA. Big riffs, dramatic energy, and that vintage ’70s rock swagger, but with a whimsical, progressive twist. It feels cinematic and slightly unhinged in the best way, like classic rock sailed straight into a storm and decided to enjoy it.

If you’re into Black Sabbath grit, Rush-level musicianship, or Zeppelin-sized ambition, this one’s going to feel right at home.

Söūp is a young, high-powered three-piece formed where sea meets land in a small New Jersey shore town, and that coastal setting runs through their sound and themes. The band blends classic ‘70s rock influence with theatrical flair and adventurous storytelling.

Fronted and driven by two force-of-nature musicians:

  • Mónica – drummer, percussionist, and backing vocalist

  • Mercedes – lead vocals, bass, and keys

You can hear “Mariner Martyr” spinning all week in heavy rotation on Radio Garden State.
