Song of the Week: Jackson Pines: “Open Up the Door”
Artist: Jackson pines
Location: Jackson township, New Jersey
This week’s Song of the Week on Radio Garden State is “Open Up The Door” by Jackson Pines.
“Open Up The Door” is one of the largest and most layered productions Jackson Pines has released to date. Originally written several years ago, the song didn’t fully take shape until the addition of a powerful Jersey Shore–inspired horn section, bringing new soul and depth to the arrangement.
The rhythm tracks were recorded live in July at Tribl/The Lumberyard in Hammonton, capturing the band’s natural chemistry. In September, the horn section was recorded at Shorefire Studios in Long Branch, featuring a horn chart written years earlier by Scott Grimaldi. Final horn mixes were completed virtually in December, with the full mix finished back in Hammonton.
Musically, the track pulls from a wide range of influences including Van Morrison, Al Green, The Band, and Bruce Springsteen. Lyrically, the inspiration leans toward the storytelling traditions of Mississippi John Hurt and the melodic sensibilities of The Beatles.
At its core, “Open Up The Door” is a song about compassion during difficult, divided times — a reminder that connection and hope are still possible when people choose openness over separation.
